Fusarium head blight, also known as scab, is showing up in wheat and barley fields, though overall pressure remains low. North Dakota State University Extension Plant Pathologist Andrew Friskop encourages growers to keep an eye on affected fields and consider steps to limit further issues. “If you know you have scab in the field, make some harvesting decisions on that; sometimes you can alter some of the fan speed and try to clean it up a little bit more,” he explained. “You can keep scabby seeds separate from your better fields so you’re not co-mingling and spreading the problem.”
