Hefty Naturals Brand Manager Matt Thompson says more farmers are embracing biologicals to manage disease and insect pressure. At the Ag PhD Field Day, Thompson highlighted how biological technology is becoming more accessible and effective. “The cool thing is, we absolutely are getting more tools at the grower level to combat some of these disease issues that we are seeing in fields,” said Thompson. “That holds true as well for some of the insecticides, as we can now use living organisms to affect how rootworms interact with corn plants.” Thompson says that while some products, like MegaGrow, are already widely used, other biologicals that rely on living organisms to fight pests are still in the early stages of adoption among farmers. “The willingness for growers to continue to try things and continue to push the needle, that’s really where this market is.”
