Strasburg, North Dakota-based Wade’s Harvesting is just finishing up the winter wheat harvest near Aurora, Colorado, east of Denver. “It was dry; they didn’t get much rain,” explained owner Wade Haak. “Last year, they were in the middle 50s for yields. This year it was in the mid-20s to high teens.” Haak says the harvest in Oklahoma was even worse. “With all the rain down south, we sat in Oklahoma for five weeks and didn’t cut a thousand acres. We had over twenty inches of rain while sitting there, and we ended up having to drive away from 2,000 acres that we just couldn’t finish. A bunch of local farmers got together and helped each other out and finally finished.” Next up for Haak’s crew is a trip to Minot for spring wheat harvest in August.
