Day two of the Wheat Quality Council’s Hard Red Spring Wheat Tour wrapped up with mostly positive field observations. Executive Vice President Dave Green said crop health is strong across much of the region. “We didn’t see much disease. It was hard to even train people when it all looks the same. It was hard to find wheat stem maggot, hard to find scab, hard to find smut. There were no weeds in the field, the leaves looked good.” While crop quality looks good, two-day tour yield averages came in lower than 2024. Hard red spring wheat is averaging 46.5 bushels per acre, down from 53.1. Durum yields are at 37.0, compared to 45.3 a year ago. Total wheat yield across all classes averaged 47.8 bushels per acre, with one standout field near Turtle Lake yielding 72.7 bushels.
