Rain and cool temperatures are making it difficult for custom harvesters to make progress in northern wheat fields. Paul Paplow’s crew has been near Great Falls, Montana, for several days with little field time. “It’s just been wet, been cool and damp out here,” said Paplow. “We’ve had a couple of days of cutting, but it’s been a real struggle getting going, kind of like everywhere else this summer.” Paplow’s crew recently finished harvesting in western Kansas and Nebraska, where conditions were much more favorable. “Western Kansas had a very nice crop, definitely above average.” Paplow is president of the U.S. Custom Harvesters, Inc.
