John Long is a retail sales agronomist for Brevant Seeds in southwestern Iowa and says it has been a great season overall. “It started in the spring very dry, but that allowed us to get in in early April and start planting crops,” said Long. “A lot of soybeans are getting planted first in Iowa now, so we probably had more soybean planting done in April than in May this year, which worked out. ” The dry period ended in May with some areas of the state receiving eight-to-ten inches of rain last month. As we get into mid-July here, the conditions are perfect for pollination. The rainfall has been pretty steady, with a quarter, or half inch to an inch amount about every week.”
