Sprayers are standing still after a series of storms over the past few weeks. “Off of the really strong storms, whatever, two or three Fridays ago, we definitely saw some green snap out there,” said Rick Swenson, lead agronomist, Peterson Farms Seed. “I would say as a whole, less than one percent, although I did see up to ten percent in one little spot and there’s hail damage on some of the soybeans.” Swenson said the replanting efforts could prove to be worthwhile. “I’ve replanted all the way up to the 4th of July before. Sometimes, if we have a nice fall, you can get them to finish with some double zeros on something, but I’ve also seen stuff that didn’t make it if we ended up with a September frost.” Corn is progressing quickly, with tassels expected as early as this week.
