According to USDA, sunflower acreage is up 38 percent from last year, but the total is still the second-lowest planted area nationwide since 1976. National Sunflower Association Executive Director John Sandbakken remains skeptical. “I would say that I think the numbers are a little low,” said Sandbakken. “I’ve got a feeling that they’re going to end up a little bit higher when we start seeing reports later on this year, especially in the Dakotas and Minnesota.” The NSA leader said seed was still going out the door when the survey was conducted. “We usually wait to see what the FSA reports are gonna look like in August and the harvest report in October to get a good handle on acres.”
