The House passed the Senate budget framework with a 216-214 vote. The White House and House leadership was able to secure enough votes from conservative Republicans to push the bill over the finish line. The House had to pass a budget resolution identical to the Senate bill to begin the budget reconciliation process. The Senate will now be able to pass budget reconciliation with a simple majority rather than the 60 votes necessary to avoid a filibuster. The so-called ‘big, beautiful bill’ will likely include a permanent extension to the 2017 tax cuts. It may also be a path forward for the farm bill.
