Residuals are critically important for effective weed control. BASF Technical Marketing Manager Liam Vincent says residual herbicides establish a foundation to start the season. “We get that activating rainfall and if the rain shuts off as the season goes on, you have protection from that residual to get your crops off to a strong start and hold off off those weeds from emerging,” said Vincent. “It buys you a lot of application time for those post-emergent herbicides that are to follow.” Vincent says there are two main knock-down herbicides with 2,4-D and Liberty/Liberty Ultra. “We really have to set up those active ingredients for success with a strong pre that reduces the number of weeds that have to be sprayed and that may be a mindset shift.”
