North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne expressed frustration over the state’s recent property tax relief discussions, saying rural residents were left out. “We tried really hard to get additional dollars to be a percentage off of rural property taxes, but we were unsuccessful in getting that done.” Watne added that the process was disappointing, especially for farmers who may not receive any relief. Watne also criticized the lack of resolution and disagreements between state leaders. “There was some disagreement between what the governor wanted and what the legislature wanted,so it got somewhat messy.”
