Minnesota Democrats in Congress are pushing back against President Trump’s newly announced tariffs, warning of economic consequences for farmers, businesses, and consumers. Ranking member of the House Ag Committee, Representative Angie Craig, criticized the administration’s approach, arguing it will “raise input costs, reduce export opportunities, and burden middle-class families.” Craig pointed to the Trump administration’s 2018 tariffs, which she said cost farmers $30 billion in lost exports. Ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee, Senator Amy Klobuchar, condemned the tariffs as “the biggest tax increase in a generation” and warned they could increase costs by more than $5,000 annually for the average family. While she supports targeted tariffs against adversaries, Klobuchar said broad tariffs would “only raise costs, hurt businesses, and eliminate jobs.”
