Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. is promoting a new theory to deal with avian influenza. According to a story in the New York Times, Kennedy is suggesting farmers allow Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza to spread throughout flock, saying turkey and chicken producers could identify and preserve the birds that immune to the virus. The New York Times reports Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins also supports this concept. Due to the high mortality and contagiousness of the virus, the current strategy is culling and containment.
