President Donald Trump reaffirmed his hardline stance on tariffs with Canada during an Oval Office meeting, insisting the U.S. would not back down despite market concerns. “We’ve been ripped off for years, and we’re not going to be ripped off anymore.” Trump defended tariffs on aluminum, steel, and automobiles, arguing that U.S. taxpayers should not be subsidizing Canada. “In the case of Canada, we’re spending $200 billion a year to subsidize Canada.” Trump went on to suggest that Canada would function better as a U.S. state, calling it “one of our greatest states, maybe our greatest state.”
