The legislative session in Minnesota has been one for the history books. The Republicans had a 1 vote majority and organized on opening day. The DFL stayed away in disagreement over control. Two weeks later, the state Supreme Court ruled that 68 members constitute a quorum, which means that the lower chamber had no official proceedings during the Democratic boycott. Representative Paul Anderson of Starbuck said that meant all the work that was done in those two weeks was null and void. “So now we’re back to square one again, that the DFL members are not showing up for floor sessions, so we can’t establish a quorum,” said Anderson. “So, an unusual start, but we are meeting here, Republicans anyway, and doing the business of the state.”
