North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum faced a wide range of topics in his confirmation hearing Thursday. Burgum, who has been chosen to lead the Interior Department, was asked about the use of the Endangered Species Act. “You raise a very important issue which is the weaponization of federal rules that are meant to actually protect the wildlife,” said Burgum. “It’s a legal weapon and it’s being used for fundraising (and) it’s used for groups that are just trying to block our nation’s progress.”
