Mexico’s restrictions on U.S. biotech corn imports violate the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement. A three-judge trade dispute panel ruled in favor of the United States. Mexico’s agriculture and economic ministries disagreed with the ruling, but said they would respect it. This case began in 2020 when the Mexican president said GM corn would be banned by the end of 2024. In February, the Mexican government eased its original ban, allowing biotech corn to be used in livestock feed. The National Corn Growers Association is praising this decision.
