President Joe Biden will pardon national Thanksgiving turkeys today on the White House South Lawn. The two turkeys, raised in Minnesota, will be spared and sent to Farmamerica after staying at the luxurious Willard Hotel. Turkey pardoning dates back as far as President Abraham Lincoln, though the first official pardoning took place under President John F Kennedy’s tenure. The practice was not formalized until President George H.W. Bush in 1989.
