After a three-day strike, ports on the East Coast and Gulf Coast are operating again. The U.S. Maritime Alliance offered a 62 percent increase in wages over six years. The Longshoremen’s Association agreed to suspend their strike until mid-January, giving both sides more time to negotiate. One of the key remaining issues is the use of automation on the docks. On Friday, ports began clearing containers that were left sitting on the docks and dealing with a backlog of more than 40 ships.
