During Tuesday’s market panel at the Big Iron Farm Show, Martinson Ag Risk Management President Randy Martinson said U.S. cattle numbers are low, but feedlots are importing calves from Canada and Mexico. “Our feedlots are actually showing bigger numbers than we saw last year because of the imports coming in,” said Martinson. “We are seeing bigger feed demand than we had initially anticipated because we thought we were going to continue to see lower numbers.” Martinson says this is preventing grain prices from falling further.
