The Red River Farm Network Crop Tour made a stop near Pekin, North Dakota. Carl Jensen says the August rains that hurt small grains helped out the row crops. “I don’t think we’re quite as far behind as some people are talking about,” said Jensen. “We’re starting to see dent on early corn; there might be more moisture to contend with this fall, but as far as making it to maturity I think we’re going to be ok.” During the tour, Jensen highlighted the local sunflower crop. “Like the old timers used to say, you needed rain on your barley swaths to get sunflowers crop. Well, we had plenty of rain on the barley crop so flowers are looking really good. We’re starting to see a few more acres of them in the countryside. The flowers are helping some of that heavier, wetter, sour ground become more productive again.” The Red River Farm Network Crop Tour presented by Pioneer interview with Jensen can be found online.
