Milk production in the 24 major dairy production states totaled 18.2 billion pounds in July. That’s down 0.2 percent from July of last year. In South Dakota, milk production increased 7.4 percent. South Dakota added 15,000 cows to the state dairy herd over the past year. Minnesota milk production dropped four percent, losing 9,000 cows since July of last year.
