According to NDSU Extension Plant Pathologist Andrew Friskop, Fusarium head blight is already rearing its ugly head in even the earliest planted wheat varieties. “I’m expecting that middle to late-planted wheat is also going to see a fair amount of it this year too and it’s really tough to say how bad it’s going to be but it’s going to be more noticeable than the last five years for sure.” Much of the tri-state area could be seeing increased disease pressure. “The biggest diseases we have for wheat, they love moisture and it’s not just rain but humidity.”
