During June Dairy Month, milk production in the 24 major dairy states totaled 18 billion pounds. That’s down 0.8 percent from June of last year. South Dakota had the largest increase in milk production, up 8.3 percent. At the same time, Minnesota’s milk output declined by one percent. South Dakota state dairy herd increased by 17,000 cows and Minnesota cow numbers declined 6,000 head.
