The wet season has delivered a new headache for Minnesota organic farmers. “We’ve been invaded by a horrible new weed, wild parsnip,” said Karen Torjesen. “We very much want to get into those fields to mow them but have been unable to do so.” Torjesen, who farms at Kenyon in southeastern Minnesota, said the weed is even more bothersome for organic farmers who must physically remove weeds from their fields. “It’s a particularly vicious weed because of the sap. One has to be extremely careful about touching it.” Torejesen says wild parsnip first entered the state a couple of years ago and has spread rapidly.
