The white combine crossed through the central Red River Valley one week ago. “It stretched all the way from Steele County, North Dakota, went to Traill County from the Golden Lake area all the way through Hatton/Mayville and angled up to Cummings,” said Jennifer Otteson, owner, Countryside Insurance Agency. “It also angled into Minnesota into Norman County which got pretty hard; Mahnomen and Bejou areas are hit hard as well. There are many fields where there is absolutely nothing left.” Photos from the hail storm can be found on the Countryside Insurance Facebook page Otteson reminds farmers the crop insurance reporting deadline is just a week away. “Once farmers get their acres planted, they are required to report their acres to their crop insurance agent by July 15th; that’s how they’ll establish their coverage and premium.”
