In a presentation given at the Midwest Farm Energy Conference, University of Minnesota Post Doctoral Researcher Matt Palys spoke about the economic benefits of using wind and solar energy to create ammonia and urea fertilizers. “I think this brings the biggest economic benefit to the farms and communities if it’s farmer-owned production through the co-ops.” Palys stressed the value of local production and how it could help farmers’ bottom line. “If we were to do this chemical production in Minnesota or the Upper Midwest it would bring jobs, revenue, tax revenue from this production to the local economies.”
