The Minnesota House Agriculture Committee has laid over a supplemental budget bill that includes an additional $7 million for the state Agriculture Department. That includes a one-time investment of $4 million for the Agricultural Growth, Research and Innovation Program. This new AGRI money will support dairy and livestock farmers. The other $3 million goes for in-home water treatment. This would be a statewide program, but the focus would be on southeastern Minnesota where nitrate contamination has been an issue. It also extends the Agricultural Fertilizer Research and Education Council for five years.
