Farmers can never have too many tools in their bags, especially when it comes to herbicide resistance. A new product from Harpe Bioherbicide Solutions is expected to be available as early as the 2025 planting season. Harpe Bioherbicide Solutions board member Kit Tom says that the product is plant-based and will bring a new mode of action to herbicide applications for the first time in almost 40 years. “This is something completely different, and it gives us the ability to control some of those tough pests that we have on our farms.” According to Tom, the herbicide is based on mint oil extracts and much of the base materials will be sourced from farmers who grow mint. More than 1,000 field and greenhouse trials have been conducted and Tom says that Harpe Bioherbicide should be available no later than 2026.
