The United Soybean Board held a recent board meeting to discuss the use of soy checkoff dollars and to start presenting proposals for their 2025 budget. Board Treasurer Brent Gatton says that finding other options to help move the soybean meal pile is a focus going forward. “One of the main things that we want to focus on is the meal, and finding new ways to move it. One of the most exciting things that we invested in recently was the Port of Grays Harbor. We were able to increase our soybean meal exports to Southeast Asia from 3 million metric tons to 6 million metric tons.” With increasing demand for biofuels, Gatton says that there will be more opportunities for soybean use going forward and the challenge now is to find ways to capitalize.
