This past season, Morton, North Dakota farmer Mike Langseth used an older corn head to improve seeding in no-till soybeans. Corn stalks are taller and more variable. “It looks like 1998 out there; it’s great,” said Langseth. “What we’re hoping to get out of it is a little less maintenance on the corn head and ease of planting.” Langseth says they’ve been able to work with cattle producers in the area to graze the corn stalks. There is some added erosion protection. Taller corn stalks also hold more snow in low moisture years.
