After the USDA confirmed the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in a small number of dairy herds, National Milk Producers Federation Executive Vice President for Communications and Industry Relations Alan Bjerga was quick to assure the dairy industry and consumers there is no impact on human health and no impact on the milk supply. “There is no evidence of cow-to-cow transmission,” said Bjerga. “Those cows have all recovered, not a single cow has died as a result of this and after a while, they start producing milk again. We’re not seeing disruptions in milk supply or an animal health crisis, but we’re keeping an eye on it because it’s something new.”
