The Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council was on the scene for a demonstration of a new firefighting foam made from soybeans. PFAS, also known as ‘forever chemicals’ have been used in firefighting foam for decades. The SoyFoam product does not contain harmful chemicals, including PFAS and fluorides. “It’s a positive for soybean farmers because it builds a market; it’s a positive for our rural fire departments due to health and safety, a win-win all around,” said Mike Youngerberg, senior director of product development and commercialization, MSRPC. “The State of Minnesota banned that firefighting foam so any department in the state that had the previous foam can’t use it.” Soybean farmers, firefighters, and industry leaders from throughout the country participated in the SoyFoam product demonstration in Dalton, Georgia.
