The last confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Minnesota was found in October. State Veterinarian Dr. Brian Hoefs told the Minnesota Senate Ag Committee the Board of Animal Health is still ready for any outbreak that may occur this spring. The abnormally warm winter weather has impacted migration patterns. That makes any spring outbreaks unpredictable. “These strange winters that we have seem to be strange as far as migration is concerned as well,” said Hoefs. “It could come earlier; it could come later. It’s anybody’s guess, but we’re preparing nonetheless.”
