During the Lake Region Extension Roundup, NDSU Extension agronomist Claire Keene shared information on the ongoing drought and how farmers can reduce its impact on their crops. “A strategy that farmers can take is to use some lower water-use crops. Spring wheat, barley, oats, peas (and) lentils might provide an opportunity to grow a crop that needs less water,” Deep-rooted crops can access deeper water levels and is another effective way to minimize the effects of drought.
