The closing of two international border rail crossings between the U.S. and Mexico has not had much of an impact for the Northern Plains yet. North Dakota Grain Dealers Association Executive Vice President Stu Letcher says that will change if the crossings remain closed. “We’ve heard of a couple of guys that are waiting for empty trains to come back,” said Letcher. “Since they closed the border crossing, none of the cars are coming back out of Mexico that have been shipped down there.” Mexico is the top importer of U.S. corn, but it also imports other grains from the North Dakota.
