According NDSU Extension Crops Economist Frayne Olson, state policies are driving the demand for renewable diesel. “California, Washinton and Oregon have all passed similar kinds of legislation,” said Olson. “To be very honest, we’re having a hard time in agriculture to provide the demand base for California only.” No changes are necessary for engines or pipelines to make the switch to renewable diesel. The bigger debate is likely to be seen if food or fuel is viewed as most important for soybean products.
