Farming has been in a state of constant change since the beginning of time. That evolution includes big farms getting bigger. “The average age of the farmer has actually dropped a little and that’s because of retirements and baby boomers exiting their careers,” said Gary Halvorson, Executive Vice President of Enterprise Customer Development, CHS. “That puts the onus to look at supply chains differently, look at our sales teams differently and Rural America isn’t blessed with more people coming to work in agriculture so that is another layer for us took at efficiency.” CHS is making its largest-ever investment in customer-facing technology. In an interview with RRFN, Halvorson said people still come first. “Ag is a relationship business; every customer is custom and they each have their unique challenges and their own strategies.”
