The National Pork Producers Council, North American Meat Institute and U.S. Poultry and Egg Association met with representatives of the White House Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs to voice concerns over EPA’s proposed wastewater rule for meat processing facilities. This potential regulation is being reviewed by OIRA is expected to require meatpackers to install significant upgrades to their wastewater management systems. During the meeting, NPPC Chief Legal Strategist Michael Formica emphasized pork producers are dealing with the worst economic crisis in a generation and can’t afford the potential loss of markets due to regulatory pressure.
