A large group of livestock, crop and forestry groups sent a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in opposition to Indiana Representative Spartz’s anti-checkoff amendment. The amendment was ultimately defeated. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Senior Director of Government Affairs Tanner Beymer said there was vigorous debate over the amendment, but there was a lot of opposition. “The checkoff program has strong bipartisan support. The letter we sent was signed by 31 national ag organizations and over 100 state organizations.”
