NDSU Extension Entomologist Janet Knodel identified grasshoppers as the biggest pest problem in wheat, barley and soybeans. “We expected as much with the drought last year; grasshoppers were at economic (treatment) levels more so in the central and western areas of the state.” Knodel noted aphids were seen in pockets of the state, but estimates less than 20 percent of fields had them.
