As expected, the United States is seeking a dispute settlement panel with Mexico under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The disagreement is over Mexico’s plan to ban the biotech corn meant for human consumption. U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said Mexico’s approach to biotechnology is not based in science. Farm groups, including Farm Bureau, the National Corn Growers Association and U.S. Grains Council, are praising the USTR decision.
