Bale grazing in the winter would cut down on labor, time, and help spread nutrients to needed areas. NDSU Extension Forage Crop Specialist James Rogers says fall bale grazing can cut down on transportation time if you start planning now when moving hay from fields to storage areas. Using an electric fence to leapfrog across the bale grazing area would allow cattle access for two to three days of feeding. According to Rogers, using multiple locations for bale grazing can spread out the nutrient benefits. “Bales contain nutrients, protein, energy, and other things that can be used to increase the fertility of the area that the bale is being grazed on.”
