The current Black Sea grain deal is scheduled to expire Monday. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly threatened not to extend that agreement. CoBank’s lead economist for grains and oilseeds, Tanner Ehmke, is not convinced Russia will follow through on that threat. “Two of Russia’s allies, China and Turkey, want that grain deal to go through,” Ehmke told RRFN. “Vladamir Putin is blustering that he’s going to renege on the deal, but we saw Russia continue with the deal last time. We’re not so certain that Russia will indeed back out of the grain deal because of the political influence from Turkey and China.
