The State of California has pushed back the Proposition 12 implementation date until January 1. Previously, farmers had until July 1 to come into compliance with the housing standards for pigs, egg-laying hens and veal calves. The California Department of Agriculture and Food sought the delay to provide a time of transition. In a statement, the National Pork Producers Council welcomed this news, but went on to say it is working with Congress to find a permanent solution to this issue.
