Options to control alfalfa weevil could become more limited. In a University of Minnesota Extension podcast, Integrated Pest Management Specialist Bruce Potter said economic thresholds are important to prevent resistance. “Every field doesn’t need alfalfa weevil treatment every year. Not treating insects that you don’t need to treat will help limp us through until new things come along.” This problem is not new. “Some guys not only got on to a cutting schedule, but they got on to a spray schedule, so resistance isn’t totally unexpected.”
