The Polish Agriculture Minister resigned with rising anger among farmers over grain price impacts from Ukrainian grain imports. Polish farmers had called for the introduction of tariffs on grain while the European Commission decided to extend duty free imports for Ukrainian grain until June 2024. Logistical bottlenecks have brought large quantities of Ukrainian grains to Central European states impacting prices and sales of local farmers. Prime ministers of five states including Poland wrote to the European Commission President last week to demand action on Ukrainian agricultural imports saying tariffs may need to be reintroduced if the influx of grain and other products from Ukraine cannot be stopped by other means.
