House Bill 1437 was heard in the North Dakota Senate Agriculture Committee this past week. This proposal would create regional livestock planning grants. Agriculture, economic development and township organizations spoke in favor of the bill. North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Executive Vice President Julie Ellingson emphasized the importance of a confidentiality clause in the bill. “It helps ensure the information garnered on these parcels doesn’t get into the wrong hands or misused for a purpose that could be economically harmful, intrusive, or potentially put an operation in harm’s way,” said Ellingson. Dakota Resource Council field organizer Sam Wagner spoke in opposition, citing the confidentiality clause as potentially harmful to the environment and communities.
