An Iowa company known as Lynch Livestock have been fined nearly $200,000 and ordered to pay over $3 million in restitution to farmers. Four of the company’s managers also pled guilty to federal fraud charges. For the last 20 years, Lynch Livestock officials allegedly directed staff to falsify scale tickets and invoices to pay less than what was due for the purchase of hogs. Lynch Livestock managers and employees also routinely shredded and burned any evidence of the fraud. The court said livestock producers from throughout the Midwest were victimized by this fraud. In a statement, Lynch Family Companies Chairman Gary Lynch said “the company has taken full responsibiity for all past sorting and weighing issues and we are ready to close this painful chapter.”
