In a recent trip to Columbia and Panama, the National Pork Board trade team and US Meat Export Federation toured expanding infrastructure that has allowed for more advanced trade of pork products to the countries. USMEF Chair-elect Randy Spronk says there is a lot of potential in Central and South American countries. “We typically think of Asia as the biggest potential for export markets, but when you look at other South American countries, they have the potential to be another Mexico.” Spronk says Columbia and Panama have helped set the stage for South American markets showing tremendous expansion in those markets in recent years. “The difficulty is that each one of those is an individual country that we have to grow markets within.” Said Spronk.
